Big Data Analytics:Big Data—It’s Not Just Size > 2/21/17

I will be speaking on February 21, 2017 at Discovery Suites, Ortigas Center, Pasig City  on Big Data Analytics and Business Intelligence.

With that in mind, I wanted to go into a little more detail about each section, starting with…

Enabling Your Business to Make Smarter Decisions Section 1 : Big Data—It’s Not Just Size

Participants will learn to Describe the Importance of Effectively Analyzing Big Data in Business Today
. Being able to explain analytics to non-technical people is very important for any analytics solution to work.

We will also come up with a Data Map to Analyze the Big Data in your business. A data map allows you to see how data comes into the business, where it is stored and how it is accessed. Knowing you data environment is key to having clean and valid data in your analysis.

Another goal will be Establish Clear Objectives When Analyzing Big Data. Knowing exactly what your end user needs, how they want your reports and what will happen to the fruits of your analysis will allow you to be much more value to the business.

I will show attendees how to Recognize and Apply Various Data Collection Methods
. Way to often we get stuck by not having documented are process clearly. Having an easily traceable and repeatable process will make your analytics life much easier.

In addition, we will talk about how to Identify and Resolve Problems Associated with Data Collection
. Not all data is good data. In fact cleaning data can eat up a lot of time, but it’s a better alternative to reporting based on bad data.

We will discuss the difference between Data Warehouses and Data Lakes. Knowing how data is used in your organization, who has access to it and what they do with it goes a long way in making sure your entire organization becomes more data-driven.

Finally, we will determine when to use Data Blending in your analysis. How to take all of the Big Data you have both inside and around your business and bring them together to give you a 360 degree view of things is also very important to success.

Thats section one… i’ll over the next 3 sections over the next few days.

If you are interested in attending this training, I can connect you with my good friends at Ariva Events Management who will be facilitating the program.

Data Analytics to the Rescue

I am a big fan of super hero movies.

One of the reasons why is that in many ways I consider myself to be somewhat of a super hero.

According to Webster’s Dictionary, a super hero is “a figure endowed with extraordinary or superhuman powers which are used for fighting evil.”

IMG_6912

In my world, evil is analogous to ignorance… or the lack of information needed to make good decisions.

I live to fight this fight.

My extraordinary gifts are being blessed with a keen analytical mind and the ability to empower others to unleash their analytical abilities.

Analytics was not my career choice, but my innate curiosity and passion for answering questions put me in a position to become an analytics expert.

I have all the training and skills an educator needs, but instead of teaching in the classroom I train out in the business world.

On February, 21, 2017 I will be hosting a training on Data Analytics. E-mail us at analytics@dmaiph.com to register or get more info.

This will be so awesome.

I get to do what I do best.

And I get to do it in my adopted homeland.

I get to use my gifts to help Filipino professional unlock the curiosity buried inside them and use that to help empower more data-driven decisions in their organization.

The Secret to Being a Great Analyst

The secret behind just about anything successful is having a plan.

What is your analytics plan?

How will you empower analysts to add value?

What data techniques can you learn to have a greater impact?

How can you get your hands on new technologies to enhance the way you work with data?

You need a plan.

An analytics action plan.

An analytics strategy plan.

An analytic roadmap.

Whatever you call it, you need a plan that combines the right analytics talent, the right analytics techniques and the right analytics technology.

You need to build a map of how your data flows through your business.

You need to identify people in your organization that are curious and comfortable using data to make decisions.

If you are ready to build your analytics plan and need to ensure it will achieve you goals, I will be facilitating a training class on February 21 in Ortigas. Send us an e-mail to analytics@dmaiph.com to register or to get more information.

I will help you come up with an analytics plan to help you start taking advantage of the business data you have in order to increase efficiency and grow profits.

3 Tips to Maximize the Potential in Your Data

Data is the lifeblood of the 21st Century business.

If you aren’t using your business data to optimize your processes, increase your profits and fuel your decision-making, then you are behind the times.

So let me give you 3 tips to maximize the potential in your business data.

Tip #1 – Map Out Your Data Environment

Tip #2 – Identify Your Data Geeks

Tip #3 – Get On the Same Page

Most businesses don’t have a good map of how their data flows through their business. Just about every employee, every team and every location is stock full of data that can be useful. But, in most businesses there is little understanding of how it is all connected.

You need to know how data is acquired, how it is stored, and how it is accessed. How often is it refreshed? How clean is it? How valid is it? If you have answers to these questions you can build a map of your business data. Like a flowchart.

As you map out the flow of data in your business, you can also identify the data geeks in your business. The ones who understand the value of using data to make decisions. The curious ones who ask a lot of questions. You need to empower these people.

Once you have a data map and you have brought together your data geeks, then you need to get them all on the same a page.

I’d suggest bringing in a consultant who can give you a new and unbiased perspective on how to deal with analytics roadblocks. Places, processes and people in the business who aren’t in synch.

IMG_6912

Another option would be to send the team to a training class facilitated by an expert… someone like me.

If you need a place for your team of data geeks to get outside the box an get on the same page, I will be facilitating a training class on February 21 in Ortigas.  Send us an email @ analytics@dmaiph.com to sign up or request more details.

I will help you come up with a analytics action plan to help you start taking advantage of the business data you have in order to increase efficiency and grow profits.

Unlock the Power in Your Data Using Analytics – All Attendees Get A Copy of My Book!

E-mail us at analytics@dmaiph.com to register for the training or to request more information!

By now just about everyone knows that there is almost limitless opportunity buried in their business data. The big question facing business analysts, leaders, managers, and owners is how do I unlock that potential.

For a lot of us, we just aren’t sure where to start.

Do we go out and hire an expert analyst or data scientist and hope they can make it all work out?

Do we buy a new business intelligence or data modeling software and hope our current team can figure it out?

Do we send our people to training so they can learn new ways to identify, inventory and integrate business data into our decision-making processes?

Well, successful companies do all three. They line up the talent, technology and technique to empower the business with solid analytics.

Hiring a new employee or brining in a consultant will help you address the lack of talent you have working with your business data. Curious people, adept at working with technology and being able to translate your business questions in to valuable insights is generally step one.

As you bring that new person into the fold though, it is just as important to make sure your team is ready to start using more data in their business processes. You can’t expect one person to fix it all, you need to open up your business culture to embrace more data-driven decision-making.

Once you have the talent in place then I suggest you focus on technique.

Invest in some training to get everyone on the same page. If you have a technological solution in mind, then have them trained on that too. So much time is lost because people tasked with analytics are under trained.

Then, when you have everything lined up. That’s when you spend on a software solution. New tools for data acquisition, storage, analysis and reporting generally fail if you don’t have the talent and technique in place first.

If you still aren’t sure how to get started, I will be facilitating a training class on February 21, 2017 at Discovery Suites in Ortigas.

I will help you come up with a analytics action plan to help you start taking advantage of the business data you have in order to increase efficiency and grow profits.

When They Go Low, We Go High

When They Go Low, We Go High

Michelle Obama’s quote from the recent Democratic convention will go down as one of the greatest quotes ever.

And I’ve been thinking about what that quote means for me as an American in the Philippines.

I often talk about why I love the Philippines and how I have so much faith in the Filipino people.

My passion comes from way down deep and is has been unshakeable during my 5+ years of living in the Philippines. Talking about analytics in the Philippines has been the time of my life.

Although there have been bad times. Burned by bad partners, taken advantage of by greedy individuals and flustered by arcane bureaucracy. But they haven’t stopped me.

Because when others go low, I keep going high.

Trying as much as possible to do the right thing. Valuing integrity and accountability over success and profit. These things are the high road.

As a guest in the Philippines, I strive to show appreciation and gratitude whenever possible for the once in a life time opportunity to chase my dream of empowering Filipinos with analytics.

There have been and will be detractors. Roadblocks and hurdles will continue to be a burden. Perhaps even a rift between the governments of my home county and my adopted country may cause more challenges.

But as long as I keep going high when things go low, I will survive.

My faith in the Filipino people has not diminished.

In fact, it has only gotten stronger.

My Analytics Story – My passion is solving problems by bringing together the best talent, cutting edge technology and tried and true methodologies. Three Things About the Philippines I Love

First, I love where it sits on the map. The weather suits me, I love being by water and the global position brings limitless opportunity. Couldn’t pick a better place to live most of the 2nd half of my life.

Second, I love the spirt of the people. So many reasons to be a sad and depressing place to live. Yet, Filipinos are generally the nicest and most hospitable people on the planet. Driven by both national pride and the need to be part of the global community. Filipino smiles are everywhere.

Third, I love that I am needed. I can do a lot of good no matter where I am. Being an awesome analyst and teaching people to use analytics is something I can do anywhere. But I don’t think any place on the planet needs what I do more now than the Philippines. The future of the global analytics talent pool is uniquely tied to the Philippines.

“I really learned a lot especially in terms of how to maximize the wealth of talent-related information that we have in PMFTC. I am pleased to inform you that I am downloading tableau as i type this message. I am also currently outlining a report that i want to present to my boss by Monday. I am also thinking about ways to improve our team’s regular reporting to HR Managers, being that none of the HR Business Partners seems to read the weekly report that we publish. I am looking at making it more like an infographic rather than just a collection of pivot tables that it is today. I can go on and on about the things that i want do to with everything I learned today. Thanks again for today’s learning-filled session.”

Get In Front of People

The single biggest asset to my business is me.

Knowing this helps guide my strategic plan.

The more I am in front of people talking about analytics the more the business will prosper.

The more people who here me talk about analytics will get excited and start believing they can master analytics too.

The more attendees, trainees and audiences who learn something from me, the more referrals to follow.

Branding for any company is all about building something that sticks in the minds of its customers as it also attracts new customers. Great brands don’t have to market themselves as much as they do just continue to do what they do best.

That has always been the goal of DMAI. To market me to the point where we are the name brand in analytics in the Philippines.

img_7736

Analytics is something every business needs, but most businesses struggle with. It not easy to use data to empower better decision-making. The boom in big data makes it more challenging. The dearth of analytics talent available makes it seem impossible to many business leaders.

So that is why we need to get me in front of them. To show them how they can unlock their data to tap new prospects and discover new opportunities.

Once they have a sense its not as daunting as they thought, once they feel they can do what I do too, then our brand gains power. With each interaction between me and those who need me, we level up.

That is how we execute our master strategic plan. That’s why #IamDMAI
